How about catching the works of young and older amateur artists, all under one roof?
Nearly 25 students of Dessin School of Arts have exhibited their paintings at ‘Infinite Expressions - 2010’ at Lalit Kala Akademi.

All the participants have assorted interests and what brings them together is the creativity they unleash through their brush strokes. In different age groups, the artists capture a variety in their works from colourful and vibrant nature to conceptual and pieces of everyday events.

Each of them is divided into different groups namely colourful canvas, crazy crayons, rainbow colours and gentle waves.

pg8-painting.gif Ramya, a visitor and an amateur artist says, ‘I am enjoying these works. And these paintings are exclusive to each other.’ According to Ramesh Oojha, a HR professional with a great passion for paintings, says it was very interesting to see these paintings done by people of different age groups. CHENNAI: Narmada K, 30- something housewife, stands proudly, her six-year-old daughter in tow, next to a collection of paintings at Lalit Kala Akademi. As visitors stroll past admiring the paintings on the walls, Narmada recollects how enrolling her child into the Dessin School of Arts invoked her passion in art. “Earlier, I used to draw sketches but didn’t consider painting seriously. After enrolling my child, I thought of giving it a try. I was the last one to enroll for this exhibition, but I somehow managed to balance my housework and daily classes,” she says.

The paintings displayed at Lalit Kala Akademi are the result of six-months hard work and efforts put up by 26 students, ranging from STDI student Ankitha to Narmada of Dessin School of Arts, Anna Nagar. Titled Infinite Expressions, it is the third exhibition by Dessin and has painting in four categories, including crazy crayons, rainbow colours, and acrylic colours. “Through this exhibition, we aim to showcase the talents of our students who are trained in our institute,” says R Rajendran, MFA and owner of Dessin.

R.Rajendran says that the students have the freedom to paint anything that is creative.

The exhibition also showcased a painting by a eight-year-old Vriitya Aravind who drew an aeroplane in the crazy crayons category, as he wishes to become a pilot when he grows up. Amisha Gaulechha, a Std VIII student, chose the rainbow colours category, as it was challenging and the most complicated of all. She says, “In this category, you get to choose only the rainbow colours for your paintings and this gives more outlet for creativity.” Parents and relatives came in to watch the paintings in the exhibition. MRR Vasu Vikram, actor, and N Radha Krishnan, principal, College of Fine Arts, graced the occasion. The exhibition is on till March 6. More Detale
